When iPads came out I drooled over them like many other
people. I watched all the promos and
advertising and started imagining all of the reasons I needed one of those
little gadgets. Then when I saw how much
money they cost and realized that when I dug deep down and was honest with
myself – the only role an iPad had in my life would be as a very expensive
toy. So, it promptly moved down on my
wish list as other things took priority.
I have since found one legitimate reason I need one of these, but it’s
not enough to break down yet – especially when I am saving for a newer, better
camera. A few of the other photo majors
I have met here at CSUEB use their iPads as digital portfolios.
I know just like every other tech toy out there, it is only
a matter of time before competition comes and the prices get better. There have recently been a few tablets on the
market competing with iPad’s place in the market which should lower prices and
increase features. Will tablets end up
taking over the marketplace of laptops for students and travelling business
people? If tablets keep increasing their
applications, memory, and overall usefulness this might happen. I know, I often times have to decide whether
to take my laptop with me because it’s so heavy and bulky – it would sure be
nice to have something lighter that I hardly noticed I was carrying. Well….until that happens or I can afford a
new tech toy, I will be lugging the laptop around.
